  1. I had a small and simple moment this morning. I went for a glorious after-sunrise run. The water was running from the canyon, creating near my path a beautiful stream that was not there yesterday; the glorious rays of the sun peaked over the mountain's edge without making me too hot; and I was delighted with freshness and with life. Best of all were the people. A man and woman walked up the path I ran down, and smiled at my cheery "Good morning." A beautiful old woman, still in a white bathrobe over her pajamas, greeted the day and the trash collector by bringing her wheeled offering to the curb. She responded in kind to my well wishing. A medium-sized boy, probably in his 'tweens, also bringing his canister to the curb, only looked at me a little quizzically as I jogged by and offered him my hope for his good day as well.

Then, and here is the point of the story, I came upon an old man with his neck in a brace. From my point of view, he appeared to be a little grumpy, and in spite of my usual habit, I hesitated to call out to him. Silly, I know, but I wondered how he would respond to an extremely cheerful young woman in an old sweatshirt who raced by him with a "Good morning" before the 7 a.m. sun crested the mountain. However, my trusty SayGoBeDo voice asked "Why not?" so I did. I looked over at him, smiled, and called "Good morning!," planning to hurry on my way. To my amazement, his face lit up with the most wonderful smile, and he responded with an even more cheerful "Good morning to you! How are you today?" that was literally bursting with joy. If I hadn't been on my run, there is a chance I would have sat down with him and we would probably have discovered that we were kindred spirits. As it was, I said "Fabulous, thank you!" as I ran by and my day was made, as I hope his was.

I have come to the conclusion that I absolutely love people, and one of the tremendous keys to doing so is to act on inspiration - even in the small things!
